What does an Occupational Therapist do?

Occupational Therapists help people of all ages and abilities participate in the activities (occupations) that they need or want to participate in throughout the course of their daily lives. In the school setting, the focus of OT is on the student's ability to access and be functional in their educational environment.     • Current national certification through the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT), which is an elective national certification process

    • Bachelor of Science - Major: Psychology, Minor: Sociology (Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, TX)
    • Associate of Science - Natural Science (College of the Mainland, Texas City, TX)

  • Endorsement:
    • Autism Circuit Academy - a 3 semester, 60 CEU program within the state of Texas toward the study and implementation of 28 evidence-based practices (EBPs) for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders within the school setting as identified by the National Professional Development Center for Autism Spectrum Disorder.‚Äč
    • Completed a second, advanced Autism Circuit Literacy Professional Learning Cohort (27 CEUs, Sept 2017 - April 2018) focusing on developing skills to support literacy instruction with students with Autism Spectrum Disorders, specifically those with emergent reading and writing skills.
